Marvel (MCU) now has 24 movies, and new ones are coming fast. Avenger movies have the best fan reviews, but most viewership has some favourite superhero. So whether you like Black Widow, or IronMan, Spiderman or Thor, there is no reason to skip the rest of the lavishly produced Marvel movies.
You can follow the release order or watch the movies chronologically, following the events through time. Although it seems logical to watch the action as it unfolded through the years, the film doesn’t have such strong connections, and you won’t lose narrative strings watching them by release date.
Marvel Universe Come Out Party
While DC movies had one of the best superhero movies of all time in 2008, Dark Knight, the same year, began the Marvel fairy tale with Robert Downey Jr. headlining the Iron Man. But, unfortunately, the same year, The Incredible Hulk came out with little less success.
Encouraged by the success of the Iron Man, the sequel came in 2010. The MCU introduced Thor and its famous hammer the year later. Captain America: The First Avenger also debuted in 2011. The plot of Captain America starts in the 1940s, which makes it the first movie in chronological order.
Marvel’s The Avengers from 2012 gathered numerous superheroes in one movie with great market success. Loki and Hawkeye fight against Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, and Captain America, with Hulk also being part of the picture. Avengers hit the right note with the audience, elevated the franchise and created the market for the spin-off products. Square-Enix published Marvel’s Avengers Game, and Playtech created video slots Avengers you can play on numerous igaming websites.
The Second Wave of Marvel’s Movies
Producers started to make increasingly more sequels with the careful insertion of new movies. Two such sequels came out in 2013—Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World. The second movie in the Captain America saga, The Winter Soldier, premiered in 2014 and entirely new Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Finally, in 2015 we saw Avengers: Age of Ultron that earned more than $1.4 billion despite mediocre critical reception and the introduction of Ant-Man.
Ramping up the Movies
Captain America: Civil War had a surprise introduction of Spider-Man into Avenger type movie in 2016. Marvel’s movie universe got richer for Doctor Strange that same year. The MCU released three titles the following year, including Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Spider-Man Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok.
2018 was eventful for Marvel movies. Black Panther was a critically acclaimed new addition to the universe and got excellent ratings from the fans. Avengers: Infinity War once again smashed the box office with more than $2 billion, and we saw Ant-Man and the Wasp sequel. Sitting on the golden eggs, Paramount producers started creating three movies per year. So in 2019, we saw another Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far from home.
Movies and Shows
Black Widow is the latest 24th release in the Marvel movies universe, and by the end of 2021, we are expecting three more movies. In addition, Loki, WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier got their TV shows.
One thing is sure, after slow 2020, we will see much more Marvel movies in upcoming years with the tried-out formula of sequels and introduction of the new film.
